Resources Technology Showcase: ERGT lets you fly virtual reality helicopter
For those who have always wanted to fly a real-life helicopter, the ERGT activation at the Resources Technology Showcase will allow you to experience the next best thing.
Working alongside Perth-based computer software company Sentient, ERGT has built a virtual reality experience of a helicopter en route to an offshore platform.
Visitors to the RTS will be able to go for a ride in the company’s S-76A helicopter, which features in their experiential training, at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre today and tomorrow.
ERGT general manager of client partnerships Ryan Cotterell said it would be a great opportunity for the public to experience one of the more thrilling aspects of the industry.
“Flying offshore to work is a common activity in the energy industry but it is not often the general public get to sit in an aircraft this size and experience a virtual flight to an oil rig,” Mr Cotterell said.
During the simulation, the passenger is guided through the checks and balances to prepare for an incident.
ERGT said they aimed at bringing a spirit of adventure to workplace training, where value is placed on hands-on problem solving in immersive safety and emergency response scenarios, rather than being confined to a classroom.
“ERGT will be showcasing how the resource industries prepare its workforce to be ready for any situation and to ensure they are always work safely,” Mr Cotterell said. “We want students to understand that a career in our industry is both safe and rewarding.”
The Resources Technology Showcase is free, and is open on June 21 and 22 from 9am – 4.30pm at PCEC.
