The BYD Seal has become cheaper for 2025, but the mid-sized electric sedan has simultaneously gained features.

Prices have been cut by between $2808 and $3758, depending on the variant, while all variants now come with an electric sunshade for the panoramic glass roof.

They also gain BYD’s Digital Key functionality, allowing you to unlock the vehicle using your smartphone.

The flagship Performance has gained BYD’s DiSus-C adaptive damping system, while the mid-range Premium now gains the Frequency Selective Damping shock absorbers that were previously exclusive to the Performance.

CarExpert understands model year 2025 vehicles were due here in March, however industrial action at Australian ports could affect this timing.

Last year, the Seal was BYD’s best-selling vehicle in Australia despite a continued shift across the market away from sedans.

BYD sold a total of 6393 Seals, though the new plug-in hybrid Sealion 6 medium SUV – which launched during the year – came very close to beating it with 6198 sales.

The Seal was nevertheless the fourth best-selling EV in Australia, behind only the Tesla Model Y and rival Model 3, as well as the MG 4.

Servicing and Warranty

BYD backs the Seal’s high-voltage battery with an eight-year, 160,000km warranty with a state of health equal to or more than 70 per cent.

Other parts of the vehicle are covered by separate warranty periods. These include:

  • Drive unit: 8 years or 150,000km
  • Lights, suspension, ball joints, tyre pressure monitoring: 4 years or 100,000km
  • Infotainment, shock absorbers, charging port assembly: 3 years or 60,000km
  • Lead-acid 12V battery: 1 year or 20,000km
  • Air-conditioning filters, wiper blade assembly, bulbs, fuses: 6 months or 10,000km

The palette comprises:

  • Cosmos Black
  • Atlantis Grey
  • Shark Grey
  • Aurora White

Thaumas Black remains the standard interior colourway, while the optional Ocean Blue has been replaced by Tahiti Blue. This is available only on the Premium and Performance.
