Chery's new small SUV popular out of the gate, propels brand past BYD
Chery set a monthly record in November 2024, pushing it past fellow Chinese brand BYD for the month.
A total of 1762 Chery vehicles were delivered in November, with its best seller by far being the Tiggo 4 Pro.
Chery delivered 745 examples of its new entry-level SUV in its first full month on sale, more than the Omoda 5 (542 sales), Tiggo 7 Pro (203) and Tiggo 8 Pro Max (272) and accounting for 42.3 per cent of the brand’s sales.
Not only that, the Tiggo 4 Pro outsold other small SUVs like the Kia Seltos (473), Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross (627), Nissan Qashqai (302), Suzuki Vitara (324) and Toyota Corolla Cross (639).

It’s also already beating the pricier Jeep Compass, Skoda Kamiq and Suzuki S-Cross in year-to-date figures with 1099 sales. It managed this feat against the Jeep and Suzuki in just one full month.
Chery says it expects the Tiggo 4 Pro to be its best seller in 2025. It’s the cheapest Chery, priced from $23,990 drive-away.
With 1762 sales, Chery also pushed past BYD (1552 sales) in the monthly count for the first time.
The caveats here are that BYD is still significantly ahead year-to-date (18,465 sales vs. 10,718 sales), while Chery arguably has only one direct rival for a BYD product thus far.
That’s the electric Omoda E5, which is sized and priced similarly to BYD’s Atto 3.
While Chery has previously indicated it plans to bring plug-in hybrid versions of its Tiggo 7 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro Max here, these have yet to launch locally to take on BYD’s popular new Sealion 6.
That model was BYD’s best-selling vehicle, with 847 sold in November – 54.6 per cent of the brand’s total tally.
Both Chery and BYD are recent entrants to the Australian market, though the former had a presence here – via distributor Ateco – in the early 2010s.
BYD effectively relaunched here in 2022 with the Atto 3 after some earlier efforts selling the e6 people mover and T3 van.
It commenced Atto 3 deliveries in September 2022, with Chery commencing Omoda 5 deliveries in April 2023.
