Mahindra Australia is the latest brand to roll out a blacked-out SUV, with its seven-seat XUV700 receiving a darkened look inside and out.

The Mahindra XUV700 Black Edition serves as a new flagship model for the seven-seat SUV lineup, bringing not only a blacked-out appearance but also extra equipment not currently featured in the local range.

It’s priced from $43,990 drive-away.

Headlining the inclusions is a new Napoli Black exterior paint finish, complemented by black 18-inch alloy wheels and a black-finish front grille.

The dark theme continues inside with a new Black interior colourway for the seven-seat cabin, in addition to dark chrome finishes for the air vents and centre console.

Further specification unique to the Black Edition includes ventilated front seats with active cooling, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, as well as side mirrors with memory function.

All of this contributes to a $4000 premium over the existing AX7 L grade that previously headed the local XUV700 range, with the rest of the key details carrying over.

Power comes from the 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol ‘mStallion’ engine which quotes outputs of 149.2kW of power and 380Nm of torque, driving the front wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission.

Like the wider range, the XUV700 Black Edition is covered by Mahindra’s seven-year, 150,000-kilometre new vehicle warranty with seven years of roadside assistance. Further, there’s five years of capped-price servicing.

The Black Edition will be available to order through Mahindra’s expanding dealer network, currently sitting at 75 locations across Australia with a “strong foundation” in metro Melbourne and Sydney.

It’s unclear how the XUV700 – let alone the wider Mahindra range – is tracking on the Australian sales charts, as the Indian manufacturer currently doesn’t report sales figures to VFACTS.
