To get a picture of the year ahead, let’s look at the three slowest-moving outer planets.
The first is Pluto.
Pluto is the mythological god of the underworld. He represents the never-ending cycle of birth, death, regeneration and renewal that underpins all life.
Pluto recently moved into Aquarius. Aquarius is an idealistic sign representing our aspiration to live in a functional empathic community, where individual freedom is honoured.
When individuality destroys community, there must be a Plutonian overhaul. Where community comes at the expense of personal freedom, Pluto is also bound to enact a process of rebirth.
Neptune is the next out of the blocks.
Neptune symbolises our longing for bliss and union, but can also signal our dreams, illusions and addictions. He is in Pisces but will dip briefly into Aries in the middle of the year.
In Pisces he represents our longing for peace, and our illusion that this can come without doing anything about it.
In Aries it’s a longing for action, with the parallel illusion being that bravado, conflict and battle-mentality bring positive results.
Uranus is the third titanic cosmic influencer. He represents our quest for freedom. He’s in earthy Taurus but will move into airy Gemini in July, encouraging curiosity and fresh perspectives.
ARIES (Mar 21 – Apr 20)
The Ram: Fire – Spirit – Outgoing
Love
The big news on the Aries front is that the titanic outer planet Neptune will be dipping into your sign in the middle of this year. This is bound to cause your guard to slip and a misty-eyed version of yourself to surface – much to the surprise of everybody concerned. Your planet Mars gets off to a slow start this year. You will be more focused on relationships and renewal than you have been for a long time. Let your dreams go. Fall in love with what’s right before your eyes.
Money
Chiron is with you for the whole of the year. He will ensure your financial journey is also a healing journey. The most interesting astrological events on the Aries calendar are the visits you will receive from Saturn and Neptune in the middle to the latter part of the year. The clarity you have in January may turn to fogginess and frustration post March. Saturn applies the brakes and demands you be more disciplined. Neptune will make you wonder what it is you are really investing in.
Direction
Both Saturn and Neptune dip into Aries this year. They will have a powerful effect on your sense of direction. Saturn brings us wisdom, but only through us learning how to deal with immovable obstacles. You will have to restrain your desire to power through difficult times and instead learn how to step back. Neptune inspires our creativity and imagination, but also makes us prone to fantasy and illusion. Dare to feel your feelings rather than getting engaged in futile theatrics.
TAURUS (Apr 21 – May 20)
The Bull: Earth – Matter – Fixed
Love
Uranus, the planet of liberation and change, will remain in Taurus until July. As you do your level best to forge a powerful sense of individuality, he will be there encouraging you all the way. He will alternate between being retrograde and going direct, meaning that you will shift between actively pursuing your romantic agendas and passively waiting for others to spot your shining sensory light. Venus visits Taurus mid-year, inviting you a dance of pure delight.
Money
In July, disruptive Uranus will move out of your sign, into Gemini. This should give you ample time to strengthen your resources minus major distractions and upheavals. You are in a phase of testing the waters to see what you can and can’t achieve. This is a good thing, though not exactly the conservative option. A light touch at work will bring you greater reward than treading through delicate spaces with your clodhoppers on. Explore your limits by experimenting a little.
Direction
Uranus continues as your lodger until July. He has been something of a disrupter for the last few years. It will be a relief to finally see him move on to do his work elsewhere. Uranus represents the open sky in mythology, so he is not surprisingly associated with our quest for freedom. Use the first half of the year to ponder how you are going with that. Freedom is not often what we think it is. We can get very attached to those things that hem us in. There will be fewer shocks come July.
GEMINI (May 21 – June 21)
The Twins: Air – Ideas – Changeable
Love
The year begins with Jupiter, the largest of all the planets, hovering around in your sign. Jupiter takes our sense of self and opens it up to grander possibilities. This implies an extension of your idea of what’s possible in love and romance. By June he will be gone, and you will be on your own. Venus will pass through Gemini in the second half of the year, sharing her love light with you and reminding you that life can indeed be a festival of delight. Your health will benefit from such a dance.
Money
Jupiter, the planet of expansion, opportunity and financial benevolence, is in your sign until June. The beginning of the year bodes best for entrepreneurial manoeuvres. Come July, you will be host to unorthodox and slightly disruptive Uranus. He is best known for liberating us, even when we don’t realise we need liberating. Play your cards right in the first six months of the year and you will be able to weather whatever crazy storms Uranus delivers later in the year.
Direction
This year you will be host to a powerful new guest. Uranus arrives in Gemini in July. The intention of Uranus is liberation. His method is the unexpected. In Gemini he will throw spanners into the workings of your mind. Your version of how the world works may get turned on its head here and there. Theoretically you love movement and change. Uranus doesn’t let it stay in the realm of theory. Jupiter has been in Gemini, bringing expansiveness. He moves out in June, leaving you feeling humbled.
CANCER (June 22 – July 22)
The Crab: Water – Feeling – Outgoing
Love
Jupiter moves into Cancer in June. His arrival heralds a time of expansion and growth in all parts of your life. Venus joins him in August, bringing with her an accelerated sense of delight. Your overarching interest this year is on how to stay healthy, whole whilst keeping your day-to-day self on an even keel. Jupiter will come in like a wave. Enjoy the exhilaration that comes with increased love and attention without tripping over. Send your roots deep into the soil of self-love and self-respect.
Money
Jupiter is the planet of fortune and benevolence. He will arrive in Cancer in June. Life is well and truly capable of blessing us with pleasant surprises. The trick with Jupiter is not to fall under the spell of his shadow side, which is egocentricity. Have a healthy sense of empowerment and confidence in your dealings but do your best not to lose the plot by going over the top. If you hatch projects that are dear to your heart during Jupiter’s tenure, chances are they will prosper.
Direction
Jupiter will move into Cancer in June. This will bring a significant shift of gears in your inner world. Jupiter is the largest of all the planets. He is associated with Zeus in Greek mythology, the emperor of the gods and the instigator of expansion, growth and civilisation. He was also prone to hubris. Life is invariably about to expand your sense of what’s possible. Your capacity for giving and receiving love is about to go up a few notches. To put this to best use, exercise your creativity.
LEO (July 23 – Aug 22)
The Lion: Fire – Spirit – Fixed
Love
Mars begins the year in your sign, then dips back into Cancer until April before making a second pass in May and June. He firstly provides you with bravado and an adventurous spirit in romance. This will then lead to vulnerability and a multiplicity of emotions before you again revisit the land of derring-do. It takes courage to be vulnerable. Lions are essentially in search of the openings of their hearts. Try not to shut down when it actually starts happening, no matter who the lovely catalyst is.
Money
The year begins and ends with the Sun, your ruling planet, in Capricorn, the sign of the builder. This offers you the opportunity to consider in January what it is you would like to build, and then in December figure out whether you got there or not. There are plenty of potential points of disruption in your business calendar. The major outer planets will be shuffling around from sign to sign. Your job will be to tap into your capacity for adaptability as the financial mood shifts and moves on its axis.
Direction
With Pluto now in your opposite sign, Aquarius, you are bound to be challenged by his on-going presence. Pluto’s job is to get rid of those things that no longer serve their purpose and open up the opportunity for something new to grow in their stead. Aquarius is very much the sign of community, whereas Leo is the sign of individuality. For happiness to abound, these things need to be in sync. The only way to do this is to be operating from the heart rather than the head.
VIRGO (Aug 23 – Sept 22)
The Virgin: Earth – Matter – Changeable
Love
Your focus is on truth, on finding the personal narrative or philosophy that makes the most sense to you as the one to live by. This focus naturally finds its way into your relationships. Mars arrives in June and stays until early August. He brings you the courage you need to lift the many veils that hide truth. Venus will visit briefly in September helping you make the link between love and veracity. She will bring the smile you have been looking for to your whole being. Authenticity is everything.
Money
Whether it be silently or overtly, you are holding influence. As long as Uranus remains in Taurus you will feel able to navigate practical changes with your usual pragmatic dexterity. When he moves into airy Gemini in the middle of the year, you may find yourself temporarily at sixes and sevens. With Jupiter moving into watery Cancer, your saving grace will be to focus on that which nourishes and protects. Make your financial moves accordingly. Your gut holds your greatest wisdom.
Direction
The south node of the Moon moves into Virgo in January. The south node of the Moon represents all that we have accumulated and learned over the course of time. This implies resources and liabilities. We both accumulate strengths and develop dodgy habits. This year begins a process of sifting and sorting one from the other. Build on what you have learnt. Shed habits that have you locked in situations that keep you cocooned. This is a slow deep process. Drive it with patience.
LIBRA (Sept 23 – Oct 23)
The Scales: Air – Ideas – Outgoing
Love
The year begins with the black Moon/Lilith in Libra. She has been with you for a while and will be around until March. She is an astrological reminder of the historical diminution of the feminine, in women and men, over the centuries. You are interested in justice. Her presence demands that you take a position and honour it in your relationships. It’s not enough to right bias in theory. It is only of worth when it’s personal. Venus arrives in September to flood your heart with joy.
Money
Your love of harmony and balance will be tested later in the year when Saturn and Neptune move into Aries. When there is action in your opposite sign, Aries, you are impacted. Aries runs on passion – and Saturn is the cosmic brake. The financial atmosphere will either get tentative or reactive. Try not to fall into the cauldron of collective drama. Neptune in Aries will make you wonder whether ambition can really satisfy your deepest longings, or if it’s just a pipedream,
Direction
There is plenty of action unfolding in your opposite sign Aries in the coming year. You will be challenged and supported accordingly. As Saturn moves into Aries, applying the brakes, people may feel frustrated and become reactive, which is anathema to your peace-loving nature. Your diplomatic skills will have to come into their own. As Neptune moves into Aries, so clarity goes out the window. Share yours. Be the powerful reconciling force you have always been destined to be.
SCORPIO (Oct 24 – Nov 21)
The Scorpion: Water – Feeling – Fixed
Love
With Pluto now in Aquarius until 2043, you are bound to be impacted by his emphasis on both freedom and community. To juggle the need for freedom with the need for love is no mean feat. To be out of whack one way or the other is a sorry state of affairs. For you this is a deeply emotional journey. Mars will bring you courage later in the year. Venus will bless you with a sense of connection and breakthrough soon after. Find solace, understanding and camaraderie with the one/s you love.
Money
All the outer planets are shifting signs over the next year. This implies tectonic changes that will be challenging to navigate. Pluto, your ruling planet, has already made his move into Aquarius. Questions of how to pit your needs against the needs of the community around you will creep into the foreground. As tempted as you are to retire to your secret encampment, your involvement is sorely needed. As Uranus moves out of Taurus in July, so your financial universe will be less tumultuous.
Direction
As Uranus moves out of your opposite sign Taurus in July, so you will experience less disruption than you have of late. With Saturn and Neptune moving into Aries in March, then May, you will tend to pick up on other people’s frustrations and make them your own. Try to elude this habit. Jupiter moves into fellow water sign Cancer in June. This will make you feel more empathic and inclined to share your generosity. Lay aside your prickly initial reactions. Show your true colours.
SAGITTARIUS (Nov 22 – Dec 21)
The Centaur: Fire – Spirit – Changeable
Love
Love and travel are an interesting set of companions. Journeying together can make or break a relationship. You are bound to have itchy feet sooner rather than later. Your sense of adventure will always get the better of you. Either find someone who shares your love of open spaces or teach the one/s you love how to do so. Jupiter, your ruling planet, moves from Gemini to Cancer this year. Know your attachment style and do your best to understand and respect whoever it is that dances with you in intimacy.
Money
Jupiter is your ruling planet. He is historically and mythologically an incarnation of grandiose benevolence. In Gemini, where he has been lately, he has been a little scattered and unfocused, though basically playful. This has rubbed off on you. As he moves into Cancer in June, so you are bound to be a bit more careful and protective of your extended family – and assets. Put your money where your love is, and you will be right on track. Watch out that you don’t act overly defensively.
Direction
Jupiter in Gemini has been teasing you for the best part of a year – dancing around you like a butterfly and making you feel slow, overly focused and a bit serious. The good news is that he will move out in June. In July however he will be replaced by Uranus. As Uranus moves into Gemini, so you will be confronted in new ways. Uranus likes to liberate us with surprises. He will challenge you to shift your gaze from the distant horizon to what’s close at hand. Embrace spontaneity.
CAPRICORN (Dec 22 – Jan 19)
The Goat with the Fish’s Tail: Earth – Matter – Outgoing
Love
Your ruling planet is Saturn. He is presently in Pisces, inspiring you to spend quite a lot of time fantasising and dreaming. This is contrary to your reputation as one of the more practical signs of the zodiac. Unbeknownst to many, in astrology the Capricornian goat has a fish’s tail. Your inner life can be deep and rich, which is a blessing in relationship. Saturn moves into Aries in the middle of the year, where he will pull the reins on your wilder, more unruly instincts. Love with awareness.
Money
You are celebrated as the pragmatist of the zodiac. You will have your work cut out for you over the next twelve months navigating significant changes. Pluto’s shift into Aquarius is bound to involve you in discussions about what sort of society that you want you and your loved ones to live in. This will affect how you invest your resources and energy. Your ruling planet Saturn will move from Pisces to Aries in May. In the midst of volatility, keep your commonsense on tap.
Direction
The astrological sands are shifting in a big way in 2025. All the outer planets are moving on into new areas. By nature, you are inclined to wish for stable ground. There’s not going to be much of that around. As Jupiter moves into watery Cancer in June, so you will be asked to come out of your usual pragmatic, solution-focussed mindset and explore the hidden mysteries of the emotional pools that lie under your rocky surface. Your emotional intelligence needs to come to the fore.
AQUARIUS (Jan 20 – Feb 18)
The Water-bearer: Air – Ideas – Fixed
Love
The biggest news for Aquarians is that you now have Pluto, the planet of transformation, in your midst. He is here to deepen your life experience. With Venus also in Aquarius at the beginning of the year, you can guarantee that one of the key theatres of transformation will be love and relationships. Love’s magic depends on melting and letting go, yet our egos are conditioned to remain separate and independent at all costs. Life will give you every chance to fathom this paradox.
Money
These are days of great change astrologically and financially. Pluto has moved into Aquarius, shifting the dialogue from economics to sociology. Your investments will be affected accordingly. From here on in there will always be an ethical component to consider in how you run your finances. With Saturn and Neptune moving into volatile Aries, you will have to work hard to avoid getting caught up in the drama of it all, whilst remaining your usual innovative, eccentric self.
Direction
Your ruling planet Uranus moves out of Taurus, where he’s been since 2018, into Gemini. In Taurus he has been causing upheaval in the foundations. In Gemini, he will test friendships and make us see what ideas we take for granted. He will find ways to make us question what we think we know, in one way or another. This could test friendships with those we assumed were like-minded. Pluto is also now in Aquarius. His job is to overhaul old ideals and rejuvenate them in a big way.
PISCES (Feb 19 – Mar 20)
The Fishes: Water – Feeling – Changeable
Love
Neptune has been in Pisces since 2011. He has been filling you with romantic fantasies that don’t necessarily equate with reality. As these soap bubbles alternately bedazzle you then disillusion you, so your longing, for a love that is existentially real, becomes stronger. This year he begins his exit, leaving you in peace with reality as it is for most of the year. Saturn, too, who has been cramping your style somewhat, begins his slow exit. Your shackles are being gracefully removed.
Money
Saturn has been holding you steady for years as he has passed through Pisces. He has given you a reliable rudder to guide you through tricky waters. He moves away into Aries this year, leaving you to your own devices. Neptune, too, who has been with you for years, giving you visions of possibility, leaves mid-year. Lessons have been learned. You are being trusted with a new responsibility financially. Know the resources and strengths you have. Don’t be afraid to put them into practice.
Direction
Neptune and Saturn move out of Pisces early in 2025. Both will return for brief visits later in the year. Neptune has been with you since 2011 and Saturn since 2023. Saturn has been holding you steady as the waters of life rage around you. Neptune has been opening your heart to the suffering around you, making you wonder how to express your compassion. You are on your own now. The north node of the Moon arrives, however, inviting you to reset your compass in the direction of your wishes.
