An Albany couple are $1 million richer after buying a winning lottery ticket from a south coast general store last week and “haven’t slept since”.

The pair — who purchased the winning 14-game ticket from Hopetoun General Store, about 340km north-east of Albany — said they had struggled to sleep since discovering their ticket matched the Saturday Lotto division one winning numbers.

Arriving at Lotterywest HQ in Subiaco on Monday to claim her prize, the winner said her winning numbers were the same that she had played for the last 15 years.

“I checked the ticket just before I went to bed on Saturday,” she said.

“After checking the numbers, we never got to bed and haven’t slept since.”

She said their lucky winnings will make life easier and they intend to take time to decide what to do with it.

Lotterywest spokesman James Mooney said the win marks WA’s 25th for division one this year.

“It’s wonderful to celebrate another WA win and hopefully the joy will continue with a winner in Tuesday’s $40 million OZ Lotto draw,” he said.

“So far this year, WA’s 25 division one winners have shared more than $65m in prizes.”

In June 2023, an Albany lottery syndicate believed to have been playing the same numbers for about 30 years shared a first division Saturday Lotto prize worth more than $648,000.
