Defending premiers Newdegate booked themselves a finals berth while Jerramungup’s season is over after round 14 of the Ongerup Football Association competition on Saturday.

Just four points separated the fourth placed Lions and fifth placed Eagles heading into the penultimate round of the season but the top four is now decided.

The Lions produced a superb six-point win over Lake Grace-Pingrup in a high-scoring affair at Newdegate.

The home side led at every change but it was far from easy, as the visitors mounted a significant challenge in the final term.

Trailing by 18 points at three quarter time, the Bombers kicked four goals to two in the fourth term but it was not enough to overhaul the Lions.

Chris Wollaston and Arron Russell were key figures, kicking six and four goals respectively as the Lions prevailed 16.6 (102) to 15.6 (96) in the end.

The Lions also had strong contributions from Dean Rintoul, Lachlan Maples and Riley Bridger in their fourth win of the season, that moved them two games clear of the Eagles.

Jackson Callope nearly dragged the Bombers across the line, with a brilliant eight-goal haul but falling 19 points behind by half time proved costly.

The visitors were best served by Callope, Regan Smith, Tyson Prater and Ben Watson.

The Eagles slim finals hopes were relying on the Lions losing and them overcoming Boxwood Hill.

Boxwood Hill were far too strong however, running out convincing 114-point winners as Jack Davis and Rohan Vaux combined for eight goals.

That pair finished with four each while Shane Davy and Michael Swarbrick added three as Boxwood won 22.17 (149) to 5.5 (35) at Boxwood Hill.

Boxwood kicked seven goals to one in the second to assert their dominance and kicked six majors in the final term as the Eagles season came to a close after the heavy defeat.

Brett Plane, Edward Moir, Davis and Davy were terrific for the winners.

The Eagles were best served by Alex Baum, Caleb Keley (two goals), Aaron Winters and Sean Wisewould.
