Undalup Association partners with Margaret River-Busselton Tourism Association for Bunuru Festival
This year’s Bunuru Festival is shaping up to be the biggest celebration yet.
The annual Wadandi culture and community festival slated for Cowaramup’s Pioneer Park on February 22 will feature a huge line-up of Indigenous performers.
Now in its fourth year, the family-friendly occasion advertised as a smoking and vape-free event invites Indigenous and non-Indigenous residents to walk together, share stories, learn new skills, and enjoy an exciting line-up of entertainment, organisers said.
“It’s about bringing community together, on country, to celebrate country,” Undalup Association chair Zac Webb said.
“I’m looking forward to seeing everyone out there, friends and families connecting and enjoying the music, crafts, and activities.
“I’m really looking forward to the day where our family can celebrate culture alongside the wider community that live and work on Saltwater Country.”
Along with the much-anticipated performances, Bunuru includes an Elders Tent as a space for reflection and connection alongside stalls showcasing a variety of Indigenous wares and artworks which includes vendors such as Deadly Denim, Yalkarang Consulting, Owl Friendly, Judy Bye, and Margaret Gidgup.
Also on the day, Corroboree for Life will perform a cultural dance accompanied by didgeridoo, Gerry Matera from Gather Foods will lead a bush talk yarn, while emcee Ingrid Cumming will lead attendees in a Noongar language lesson.
A collaborative live art mural with Hope Perth will also be created during the festival, along with a schedule of other workshops and activities.
However, big energy was expected on the main stage with musicians Lexyanna, Stellar Moon, Boox Kid, and Maatakitj all travelling to the region for the festival.
The musicians will provide sounds for the festival ranging from country to electro-pop, blues and dance music.
Festivities on February 22 start from 12pm and residents were encouraged to bring a blanket and water, with food and drinks also on-site.
