Fred Martin Magi: International traveller pleads guilty to life-threatening one-punch attack in Geraldton CBD

An international traveller has pleaded guilty to a one-punch attack on a 43-year-old man near a Geraldton pub, leaving him for dead last year. Estonian national Fred Martin Magi, 27, appeared in Geraldton Magistrates Court on Thursday and pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm to Damon Hollings on September 25 last year. The court was previously told Magi left the Freemasons Hotel in Geraldton’s CBD after a fight broke out. He was walking along Durlacher Street when he hit the 43-year-old in the head. The blow caused the victim to collapse to the ground and lose consciousness. Mr Hollings was airlifted to Royal Perth Hospital, where he remained for a significant period while he received neurology rehabilitation. Magi’s charge was committed to the District Court, where he will be sentenced at a later date. The matter was adjourned until April 30 for a sentence listing hearing. His lawyer did not request that any reports be ordered before sentencing. Magi’s bail was renewed, with conditions including he reside at an address in Perth and surrender his passport.
