Broomehill-Tambellup Primary School reigns supreme at Great Southern School Tennis Classic in Katanning

Broomehill-Tambellup Primary School took out the Great Southern Zone’s School Tennis Classic earlier this month and booked themselves a trip to Perth for the regional school finals on Friday in the process. The hugely successful Academy Plate was held at Katanning Country Club on March 11 bringing 10 primary schools from Kojonup, Katanning, Broomehill, Tambellup, Gnowangerup, Kendenup and Mt Barker. Broomehill-Tambellup were a class above, led by team members Skye Lockyer, Theo Bignell, Patrick Witham and Findlay Anderson. They defeated Kojonup District High School 4-2 in the final after a semifinal win against Kendenup and finished top of their pool earlier in the day. Despite going down in the final, Kojonup will also travel to Perth after a strong showing at the Acadamy Plate where they finished top of their pool before defeating St Patrick’s Primary School in the semifinal. School Sport WA’s and Tennis West’s Andrea Rundle said the tournament provided budding Great Southern tennis players with the chance to test their skills against some of the best regional talents from across the state. “It is a great opportunity for primary students to represent their school to play against quality opposition and have the opportunity to compete at the State Tennis Centre against other regional finalists,” she said. “Congratulations must go to all players who represented their school with pride and displayed excellent sportsmanship.” The Regional Champion School Tennis Classic will be held at the State Tennis Centre in Burswood on Friday.
