Five Upper Great Southern products feature in South Fremantle’s WAFLW side against Peel Thunder in Pingelly

Katanning’s Sheridan Kowald said it was a special feeling running out with her two sisters in a WAFLW league match in the Upper Great Southern on Saturday. Sheridan Kowald took to the field for South Fremantle alongside sisters Georgia and Mikaila and the trio were joined by Narrogin’s Aaliyah Ugle and Rosie Anderson at Pingelly in round eight of the WAFLW competition. Although the Bulldogs went down by 47 points, all five Uppers girls played important roles and showed off their talents. Sheridan Kowald said she enjoyed going back to her home zone. “It was very special playing in the Upper Great Southern because it’s an area so close to the heart,” she said. “Being able to run out not only with my two sisters for the first time in league WAFLW, but in front of a massive supportive crowd with many familiar faces was so special to me. “Absolutely I enjoyed playing with both of my sisters. It is nearly unheard of and a very special moment which will be forever cherished. “The atmosphere and community support from not only Brookton-Pingelly area but the whole Great Southern was phenomenal. “The oval and facilities were remarkable and everyone involved with that process should be so proud, it’s not light work and a lot of time and effort goes into such an event. “Allowing my teammates to experience the country football scene was fantastic and everyone within the club is very aware and supportive of my travel commitments.” The Thunder piled on five goals in the first half, keeping the Bulldogs scoreless as they stretched their 12-point quarter time lead to 37 points by half time. In the second half the Bulldogs kicked three majors including two in the last term but the Thunder added five themselves to run out comfortable 10.8 (68) to 3.3 (21) victors. “Peel are all class, we knew they were going to come out firing,” Sheridan Kowald said. “Just like the rest of the season, as a whole we went out with a very positive mindset. “Coming together and resetting at half-time, we were able to come out with more intensity and drive in the second half.”
