Kojonup District High School served it up to other schools to reign supreme in the recent Great Southern’s Academy Plate, which was part of the Sunsmart Schools Tennis Classic.

Tambellup Tennis Club hosted schools from Kojonup, Broomehill, Tambellup and Gnowangerup last month as they competed for the chance to represent their zone at the regional finals in Perth.

The SunSmart Schools Tennis Classic is run by Tennis West and School Sport WA and has been held since 1935, with teams participating from across the State.

The Classic involves the Slazenger Cup (Years 7-12), Herbert Edwards Cup (Years 7-9) and Academy Plate (Years 3-6) and consists of a series of inter-school events in a bid to qualify for the finals.

Kojonup DHS were victorious in a hotly contested tournament on March 14, going through the day undefeated.

Broomehill PS finished runners-up ahead third-placed Tambellup PS.

As a result Kojonup DHS and Broomehill PS qualified for the regional finals at the State Tennis Centre. Kojonup travelled to Perth and played off for runner-up in Academy Plate Country Final on Friday, March 25.

However, the Great Southern runners-up Broomehill PS were unable to compete in the regional finals.
