Hat-trick heroes as Tambellup claim premiership glory in all Central Great Southern Hockey Association grades

Tambellup Hockey Club secured a remarkable hat-tick of grand final victories in the men, women and junior competitions at the weekend. The Central Great Southern Hockey Association converged on Kojonup on Saturday for the 2023 grand finals, where Tambellup reigned supreme across all three grades. The men’s grand final was an all-Tambellup affair with Gold taking on Black in a hotly contested derby. At full time nothing could separate the two, the scores were locked at 1-all. In stoppage time neither team still could not find the back of the net, with the result to be decided on penalties. Tambellup Gold held their nerve in the tense moments that followed, slotting home two goals to claim the premiership with a 2-0 score in penalties. Tambellup won 1-1 (2-0) at the end of penalties Tambellup Gold’s Tom Kempin was named best on ground in the decider while Kojonup’s Ash Sexton was named overall best and fairest for the season and and Tambellup Black’s James Douglas was runner-up. Tambellup Black’s Josh Holmes was the competition’s highest goal scorer. The Tambellup women’s team claimed grand final glory in a nailbiting contest, emerging victorious with a narrow 1-0 win against Kojonup. Despite having to face their opposition on their home turf, a determined Tambellup walked away with the title. Kojonup’s Shaydn Gardner was named best on ground despite her side’s heartbreaking loss and was also named best and fairest across the entire season. Gardner’s teammate Dominique Magini was runner-up and Tambellup’s Kylie Lockyer was the highest goal scorer. Tambellup handed Kojonup more heartache after they claimed a 3-1 victory in the junior competition. Thomas Sheridan, from Tambellup, was named best on ground to go with his runner-up best and fairest for the season and highest goal scorer trophies. Sheridan was joined by teammate Noah Letter and Broomehill’s Harrison Woithe as the equal leading goal scorers. Kojonup pair Thomas Bilney and Sonny Radford and Tambellup’s Zoe Letter were tied as the competition’s best-and-fairest winners.
