IN PICTURES: Tributes flow in Katanning for National Police Remembrance Day

Residents and police officers assembled at Police Pools in Katanning this past Friday to pay tribute to National Police Remembrance Day.

With touching salutes, officers from both the Katanning and Tambellup police forces honoured their comrades who have died before them.

Katanning Senior Sergeant Luke Chantler co-ordinated the event, emphasising the profound importance of the day to the Katanning police force.

“Police Remembrance Day holds immense significance for the Katanning police, particularly this year with the recent loss of Constable Anthony Woods and given two officers at Katanning personally knew him,” Sen. Sgt Chantler said.

“The day provides an opportunity for police and the community alike to remember those who have been lost in the line of duty.”

The officers laid handcuffs, a cap, a radio and a code of conduct by the plinth as a symbolic gesture of their work in serving the community.

Wreaths were then laid by attendees to show their appreciation for the officers’ work.

After paying tribute to past and present police officers, attendees gathered at the Katanning Police Station for a free barbecue.

“All of us at Katanning Police Station were honoured to see such a showing of support from the community of Katanning and the day serves to remind us of the importance of the bond between police and community,” Sen. Sgt Chantler said.
