Katanning Country Club’s Derek Ramm and Josh Pinney land aces at the 14th hole
Two players have had a day to remember on the greens at the Katanning golf course recently, both walking away with a hole in one.
Katanning’s Derek Ramm landed every golfer’s dream shot last month at the Katanning Country Club, scoring an ace on the 14th hole.
Ramm tackled the 138m, par three with an eight-iron and though conditions on the day were rough, it looked good from the moment the ball left the tee.
“It’s definitely a high point of 30 years of playing,” Ramm said. “I would like to thank Kowald’s Newsagency for their support and dedicate the hole in one to Doug Smith, a past champion and top golfer at the club who is always happy to help you out and give advice.”
Another Katanning resident and new player to the club, Josh Pinney, also aced the 14th hole on Monday, January 2 in his first official game since receiving his Golflink handicap.
Pinney was congratulated by Katanning Golf Club vice-president Frank Gaudin. Anyone who aces the 14th hole receives $200 from sponsor Richard Kowald of Kowald’s Newsagency, as well as a trophy commemorating the feat.
“I’ve sponsored the 14th hole for 24 years and during that time there’s only been four hole-in-ones during competitions,” Kowald said.
“It’s great to see a new young member achieve really early, something that many golfers never achieve.”
