Katanning reaches 80 per cent double dose as Woodanilling vaccination rate remains low

Katanning has reached a milestone in the race to vaccinate the State against COVID-19, with more than 80 per cent of residents now double-vaccinated.

Data released by the Federal Government on Monday shows 80.5 percent of Shire of Katanning residents aged 15 and over have received at least two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine by Sunday, while just under 94 percent of residents have received at least one shot.

The figure has risen quickly and now sits just above the State average of 80 percent double-dose vaccinated.

However, the Shire is still lagging behind nearby Kojonup, which has a double-vaccination rate of more than 95 per cent.

At the other end of the scale, the Shire of Woodanilling remains one of the lowest vaccinated areas in the State, with only 62.4 percent having received at least two doses.

The Federal Government statistics report notes “apparent data issues” with the Shire of Woodanilling and it “should be treated with caution”.

With fewer than 30 days left to be fully immunised before the State borders reopen, Health Minister Roger Cook has urged anyone who has not had a COVID-19 vaccine to get vaccinated.

“We need to make every day count between now and February 5,” Mr Cook said on Monday.

“Don’t waste this opportunity to help protect yourself and your community.”
