Katanning still searching for first win of 2020 Upper Great Southern Football League season heading into the final round

Katanning Wanderers’ nightmare season hit rock bottom on Saturday in a 169-point thrashing away from home at the hands of an undefeated Wickepin in round six of the Upper Great Southern Football League season. The Wanderers are yet to win a game in 2020 heading into the final round this weekend. The home side were in control from the outset, booting five goals in the first term while keeping the Wanderers scoreless to take a 37-point lead into the first change. The game was put to bed by half-time as the Warriors piled on nine goals to one in the second term to open up an significant 88-point advantage. The Warriors weren’t going to stop there as they put the Wanderers to the sword in the third stanza, slamming home 10 unanswered majors and keeping their opponents from scoring to extend the buffer to 152 points. The Wanderers booted one goal in the final term but it was a day to forget, going down 2.2 (14) to 27.21 (183) in their biggest defeat of the season. Devan Mills-Durack and Tyrone Roe booted the Wanderers’ only two goals. Deklan Georgy continues his impressive season, being named in the best again along with Mitchell Banks, Caleb Keley and Roe. Emmerson Smith and Corey Sellars also toiled hard in defeat. The Warriors stitched up top spot, sitting a game and percentage clear heading into the final round. James Bristow booted five goals in the win, while Jaxon Ramsay slotted four and they were well supported by Dion Anthony, Kim Schofield, Jayden Brooks and Jethro Duffy, who all kicked three majors each. Anthony, Ramsay and Schofield were joined in the best players by Callan Sims and Sam McGillivray. The Wanderers face Williams at home this Sunday in the final game of the regular season.
