Katanning’s Kye Blight claimed a strong feature win in round five of the Late Model Pro Dirt Series at Perth Motorplex on Boxing Day.

Blight put his previous mechanical problems behind him to produce a fantastic night in the seat and claim victory in the feature race to celebrate Boxing Day in style.

The Australian champion claimed a heat victory and finished second in his other preliminary to start from pole position in the feature race alongside Ken Macpherson.

Macpherson landed on his roof early in the race, moving Brent Vosbergen up to second place, but Blight was building a gap on the field.

On lap seven Blight started overlapping cars with ease as Vosbergen was unable to make any ground.

But the race changed complexion at the halfway mark as Vosbergen closed the gap significantly before he ran into traffic and the margin stretched out again.

In the next few laps there was a number of yellow lights and with nine laps remaining Paul Stubber lost a tyre and the race was declared, handing Blight victory.

Blight won the final ahead of Vosbergen, while Warren Oldfield filled third and Joe Chambers finished in fourth after starting in position 20.

In round six of the Pro Dirt Series at Ellenbrook Speedway on Saturday, Blight had mechanical problems in heat one and didn’t take any further part in the round.
