Lakes fall short in relegation
Lakes Cricket Association ended senior country week with one win from their five matches in D-section of the annual tournament played in Perth last week.
The Lakes team was made up of players from Lake Grace, Kalgarin-Pingaring, Hyden and Newdegate clubs at the week-long carnival.
Their week got off to a great start, winning their first fixture against Bunbury and Districts by 38 runs on Sunday.
Batting first, Lakes posted 9-178 thanks to a outstanding 87 from Matt Trevenen, who smashed 10 fours.
Lakes then produced a strong effort with the ball to bowl Bun-bury and Districts out for 140, as Rob Enright claimed three wickets.
In Lakes’ second game, they batted first, making 134 on the back of a half century from Andrew Turner.
Lakes had their rivals 4-90 at one stage but Bunbury and Districts held their nerve to win by five wickets.
Enright was again among the wicket takers, with three scalps as Bunbury declared at 7-150.
Lakes were unable to chase down Geraldton’s total of 183, only managing 101 in reply on Wednesday.
Enright against snared three wickets while Lachy Mouritz top scored with 37.
A magnificent 133 from Mouritz in Thursday’s crossover game was not enough to avoid defeat, sending Lakes into a relegation match.
Fortescue posted 9-220 but Lakes could only manage 202 in reply despite Mouritz’s century.
Enright claimed yet another three wickets and Mouritz was also a multiple wicket taker
Mouritz opened the innings and scored freely despite wickets falling around him.

Lakes produced a brave run chase but were dismissed for 184.
