Leading reinsperson and trainer awards announced as Wagin Trotting Club hold final meeting of the season

A winning double to reinsman Bailey McDonough helped him claim the reinsperson of the year award at the final meeting of the Wagin Trotting Club season last Friday.

Wagin Trotting Club held three meetings this season because of COVID-19.

Heading into the final meeting, McDonough led the driver standings by just three points over Trent Wheeler ,but he prevailed with 49 points, and Wheeler was back on 41.

Wheeler won the first race with Mybrotherskeeper, trained by Craig Hynam, winning by 3.2m.

McDonough bounced back in race three with hot favourite J P Got Faith, trained by trainer of the year Hayden Reeves.

He won the race by 6.7m.

In race four, McDonough brought up a race-to-race double with Join The Que, prepared by Corey Peterson, securing a narrow 1.1m victory.

McDonough finished second driving Lovemelovemenot in race seven for Reeves.

Reeves won the trainer of the year title in dominant fashion, with his 60 points well clear of Peter Anderson (20 points).

At the final meeting, Reeves trained a double after Batavia Playboy was successful in race eight.

Wagin’s first meeting of next season is scheduled for April 1.
