National Police Remembrance Day: Katanning pauses to remember police personnel lost in the line of duty

A ceremony was held to honour Police Remembrance Day in Katanning on Sunday, with community members joining local officers and emergency services at Police Pools to remember those lost in the line of duty. National Police Remembrance Day falls on September 29 every year — the Feast of Saint Michael on the Christian calendar. Katanning police marked the occasion with a service at 10am on September 29 at Police Pools, the original police camp between 1865 and 1870. WA Police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty were remembered during the ceremony. Katanning police officers led the service, which was attended by Shire of Katanning president Kristy D’Aprile, community paramedic Sonia Brooker, volunteer firefighter Alan McFarland, justice of the peace Doug Cherry and Anglicare’s Sharon Bielby. St John WA volunteers, shire employees, friends and family members of serving police officers were also in the crowd. Acting Senior Sergeant Antony Caracatsanis, Sergeant Jeff Daniels, Senior Constable Steve Hill, Constable Caleb Crane, Constable Brodie Davies and Probationary Constable Sean Lukosius were part of the Katanning police station representation. The four offerings of handcuffs, police hat, code of conduct and police radio were presented at the service before wreaths were laid in respect of the 89 fallen officers and aides that are on the WA Police Force honour roll.
