Pingrup Golf Club Committee and Racing WA raise $10,500 to restore club with yabbie comp and sausage sizzle

Horses weren’t the only draw at this year’s Pingrup Cup as the new Pingrup Golf Club Committee enlisted yabbies to raise more than $10,000 to restore the old club to past glory. The yabby competition and a sausage sizzle saw the club raise about $5500 with Racing WA chipping in an additional $5000. Pingrup Race Club committee member Zoey Grant-Williams said it was an honour to help another local group. “Living rural, there are limited events and opportunities for fundraising, so this initiative not only helps local groups to grow and develop, but it also builds stronger ties between the race club and the community,” she said. “We’re thrilled to support the Pingrup Golf Club committee, a newly formed group of young men and women who have come together to re-establish the golf club that has been not used for many years. “The new committee aim to create a place for community members to come together and socialise as well as an opportunity for a hobby outside of daily farm work. “The race club believes that supporting these younger community members is a key to their continued involvement in the town’s development into the future.” Racing and Wagering Western Australia CEO Ian Edwards said the benefits of the Race Club Community Program extend beyond the track. “Race clubs play an important role in their communities – both economically and socially – with partnerships like this a prime example of the strong connection race clubs have with their communities,” he said. “Pingrup Race Club chose a worthy cause for their fundraising, and we are pleased to match their efforts.” Racing WA and the organisation’s 49 race clubs have raised more than $1 million for charitable organisations since the program kicked off in 2015. “Racing WA is committed to making a positive contribution to our State,” Mr Edwards said. “The Race Club Community Program allows clubs to guide our giving by proposing a local group or charity they believe deserves support and we match the funds raised on special race days.”
