The Daily Grind Cafe was the talk of the town last week after Australian celebrity cook Poh Ling Yeow descended on the Katanning cafe to shoot an episode of a new TV series.

Katanning Mosque imam Alep Mydie welcomed the former MasterChef Australia contestant and host of ABC’s Poh’s Kitchen last Tuesday.

Other notable figures attending the filming included the consul-general of Malaysia in Perth, Ahmad Fikri Zakian, and recently re-elected Roe MP Peter Rundle.

“It has been the talk of the town since Tuesday,” Mr Mydie said.

Yeow’s manager Melita Hodge said they had chosen to come to Katanning to interview members of the Malaysian community for the upcoming TV series.

“We were warmly welcomed and very well assisted with our filming while in town for the day,” she said.

“We look forward to being able to share more details about the production in the near future.”

Mr Mydie, who came to WA from Christmas Island, said it was exciting to have a high-profile person such as Yeow visit his home town.

“To have received her presence in Katanning, doing promotional shooting at the local Daily Grind Cafe and other places around town, it is an honour for Katanning,” he said.

“A face like that opens up a corridor of tourism for Katanning,” he said.

He said having someone as prominent as Poh Ling Yeow choose to come to Katanning is a sign of how well the town is doing at the moment.

“Katanning is on the map, it is on the spot right now and I hope the people of Katanning know about it,” he said.

“This is great publicity for Katanning and it is a good welcoming for Katanning to have someone like Poh in town.”
