St Patrick’s and Kojonup students winners at schools classic tennis event in Katanning

Students from around the region converged on the Katanning Country Club for the 2023 Sunsmart School Tennis Classic on March 14.

The Academy Plate event was held between seven primary schools from Katanning, Broomehill, Gnowangerup, Kojonup and Kendenup.

The teams were competing for the chance to represent the Great Southern zone at the regional finals in Perth.

In a well-fought contest, Kojonup District High School and St Patrick’s School remained undefeated throughout the day and topped their groups to reach the final.

The final was a terrific battle but St Patrick’s emerged victorious over Kojonup DHS, four matches to two.

St Patrick’s and Kojonup DHS students will now travel to Perth to play against other regional finalists from all over WA in the Champion Schools Tennis Classic.

This is a great opportunity for the primary students to represent their school to play against quality opposition and have the opportunity to compete at the State Tennis Centre.

Organisers congratulated all the players from Broomehill Primary School, Gnowangerup District High School, Kojonup DHS, Katanning Primary School, Braeside Primary School, St Patrick’s and Kendenup Primary School who represented their schools with pride and displayed excellent sportsmanship.

They also thanked Ben Cribb and Scott Culpin from Tennis West who co-ordinated and ran a “very successful” event.
