Two men charged by police after they were caught speeding and driving unlicensed on Great Southern roads

A teenage P-plater has been charged for allegedly speeding at nearly 50km/h above the limit and another man has had his vehicle seized after he was caught driving without numberplates and on a suspended licence. The two traffic incidents happened recently in the Great Southern police district. A 19-year-old man was charged after he was clocked driving at 158km/h in a 110km/h zone on Albany Highway, north of Kojonup, on August 15. The man was travelling north when he was spotted by patrolling police. He has been charged with reckless driving and his vehicle was impounded. A man in his 70s has also been charged after he was caught driving on a suspended licence and with no numberplates on August 17. Police spotted him on Ronaldshaw Road, near Tenterden, and confiscated his vehicle. The man was also driving with an unregistered trailer. He has been charged with no authority to drive and two counts of driving an unregistered vehicle. Katanning officer-in-charge Sen. Sgt David Rudd urged drivers to stay safe when travelling on roads and adhere to the speed limits. “Having come down from up north, the roads are skinnier, the banks are skinnier, there’s hundreds of old trees lining all the way along so it’s much more dangerous,” he said. “When we do speed testing, we see most cars sit between 100 and 110 so the speed limit is definitely set at the right speed. “So if everybody could just stay under that, it would go a long way to stopping us from having to attend so many crashes.”
