Albany triumph at Katanning carnival
Albany Basketball Association were champions at this year's successful Katanning Basketball Carnival.
Nearly 100 competitors and spectators headed to Katanning Leisure Centre on Saturday and Sunday to compete for $1000 in prize money.
The carnival also served as a regional practice run for the upcoming Smarter Than Smoking Basketball WA Country Championships to be held in Perth at the end of the month.
Carnival organiser Dom Pontillo said a highlight of the weekend was the legends match between Cavaliers and All Stars.
Cavaliers managed to outclass All Stars on the night, scoring 28 points to the All Stars' 20.
Players took advantage of Valentine's Day by offering female competitors roses.
"It was a successful event and planning is under way to make next year's even better," Pontillo said.
"Everyone showed fantastic sportsmanship and everyone has expressed interest in coming back."
In the first games of the men's division, Katanning defeated Newdegate 61-37, Ricketts defeated Warriors 45-27 and Albany defeated Cunderdin 71-33.
Ricketts then defeated Cunderdin 48-43, Katanning outclassed Warriors 115-28 and Albany beat Newdegate 81-18.
In round three, Cunderdin defeated Newdegate in a close game 41-39, Albany wounded Warriors 65-22 and Katanning claimed Ricketts 66-32.
Albany defeated Katanning 39-31 in the final round and Newdegate and Ricketts drew on 41 points each. Cunderdin defeated Warriors 62-40.
In the women's games, Katanning beat Newdegate 33-26 and Albany defeated Ettrics 41-14.
Ettrics won against Newdegate 32-25 in round two and Katanning defeated Pink Ladies 46-34.
Ettrics went further to defeat Katanning 32-21 in the next round and Albany beat Pink Ladies 31-29.
Pink Ladies lost to Ettrics 27-22 and Albany defeated Newdegate 47-14.
Katanning defeated Albany 36-23 and Pink Ladies won over Newdegate 49-17.
The Albany men's and women's teams both took home $1000 in prize money.
