Award nod for campaign

Gareth ThomasGreat Southern Herald

The Katanning Road Wise Committee has been nominated for a WA Regional Achievement and Community Award for their Slow Down and Show Care campaign.

The Insurance Commission of WA Regional Safety Award, to be announced in October, recognises the safety initiative which asked residents to sign a safe speed promise and commit to driving within the speed limit and being a courteous driver.

Those who signed up were issued with a bumper sticker, designed by Katanning student Kate Squibb, 11, so they could be identified as an exemplary driver.

Woodanilling Primary School is also up for an award, having been nominated for the Curtin University Teaching Excellence Award.

The small school has recovered rapidly from a period of instability and has engaged with the community to help the students reach their potential.

Successes this year for the school include the opening of a dedicated playgroup space as well as the inclusion of a banner created by the students in a display along St George’s Terrace in Perth.
