Travelling to Kalgoorlie to compete against some of WA’s best young athletes at the State Country Little Athletics Championships shows the commitment Katanning’s Montanna Campbell has to sports.

And the results are paying off.

Of the eight events the seven-year-old competed in, she took away six gold and one silver medal.

She won medals in the javelin, shot put, 200m, 100m and 70m sprint, the 70m hurdles and long jump.

Among these, she broke the 1977 record in the long jump and the 1978 record in the 70m sprint.

Montanna’s mother Nerida Campbell and her family have been supportive of her ambition.

“We were shocked that she won so many but she does put in a lot of hard work,” Ms Campbell said.

“We are so proud of her.”

As there is no Little Athletics in Katanning, Montanna and her family travel to the Narrogin Club every weekend along with frequent trips to Perth for trampoline events.

It is Montanna’s goal to make the State under-11 trampoline team.

The St Patrick’s Primary School student also competed in the event last year and won two gold, one silver and a bronze.
