Family given the Royale treatment in circus tour
Circus Royale is coming to town and it brings with it the Reyes siblings.
Susana, 16, Francisco, 14, and Jonathan, 10, are from South America and were born into a circus family.
Their father, Francisco senior, performs in balancing acts, while Susana is a contortionist and Francisco junior and Jonathan are jugglers.
Francisco senior said the family was enjoying its time in Australia.
“We’re from South America and the last seven years we have worked in Mexico,” he said.
“(Mexico) is a really dangerous country and I’m happy here.
“My kids can go outside and play or go shopping and it’s quiet.”
He said the circus was special and no thought was ever given to working outside the circus environment.
Ringmaster Damian Syred said the Reyes family fits in well at Circus Royale.
“The kids have done it all their life and all they’ve ever done is live with the circus,” he said.
As well as the Reyes family, the circus will be bringing the Fernandez family and the Globe of Death with them, which is considered one of the most dangerous circus acts in the world.
Brandon, Geraldine and Hugo Fernandez hail from Mexico and are stunt drivers who close each show with their daredevil performances in the Globe of Death.
Circus Royale will be in Katanning for three performances this weekend, then heads to Wagin next week for two shows.
