Katanning was the first stop on a regional tour for participants in the Leadership WA program.

Leadership WA provided development programs for the business, government and non-profit sector and runs a six month program to enhance leadership skills.

The majority of program participants are based in Perth and come from a wide variety of industries including, health, mining, consulting and education.

Speakers shared their stories of their experiences in Katanning, and discussed the challenges and opportunities facing the region.

A presentation and networking session was arranged at the Katanning Leisure Centre’s Pioneer Room with program participants, community leaders and shire staff participating in the event last Thursday afternoon.

Katanning Senior High school principal Nicki Polding was one of the speakers taking part in the presentations.

Ms Polding spoke of leadership in an education environment.

“It was a good opportunity to speak to leaders from a variety of backgrounds and to network, it was a brilliant outcome,” she said.

Other speakers at the event included shire of Katanning chief executive Dean Taylor, councillor Alan McFarland and Simon Womersley from Katanning Police.

Participants later toured Kukerin and Hyden.

In Kukerin, the group visited the world-class Cambinata Yabbies operation, followed by a panel discussion featuring five members of the community.

This is the second regional tour for the group, which had previously visited the Pilbara Region.
