A man died on Sunday night when his car crashed into the house next door to where he lived as a child in Gnowangerup.

Police are investigating how the 45-year-old’s Holden Commodore left Youngenup Road, smashed through a fence and flipped on to its roof.

The vehicle damaged the front yard and veranda of one house before sliding through the side of along-time family friend’s house, destroying it in the process.

The owners of the destroyed house knew the deceased driver very well after living next door to him for many years.

Residents of both houses were home when the crash took place about 10.30pm but none of them was injured.

St John Ambulance and Department of Fire and Emergency Services crews attended the scene where the driver was trapped inside the upside down vehicle and died from his injuries.

Anyone with information or who saw the Holden Commodore before the crash is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit crimestopperswa.com.au.
