Bins used to donate clothes to the Good Samaritans will be used by other organisations in Katanning after the charity chose to reduce its services in regional areas.

Former Katanning co-ordinator of the bin collections Norma Hersey said she found out at the end of March there would be no one from Good Samaritans collecting the clothes and toys from the bins.

“These bins were normally filled by the end of each month,” she said.

According to a Good Samaritans spokeswoman, the organisation is pulling out of several regional areas because of transport costs.

The Good Samaritans bins arrived in Katanning about 30 years ago and once included furniture collection.

Items were usually transferred to the Good Samaritans’ Albany office.

The Activ Foundation Opportunity Shop will now use the bins, with clothes donated to be sold at their op shop in Katanning.

Aged Care facility Bethshan Lodge will also take on responsibility for one of the bins and the two remaining bins will come under the control of Archangel Op Shop.

The bins will remain at their current location next to the Uniting Church along Arbour Street.

Good Samaritans made a final clothing collection last Thursday.

The charity has also ceased its operations in Ongerup.
