Images capture truck life

After starring in the 7mate television program Outback Truckers, Katanning business owner and truck driver Glen “Yogi” Kendall is back in the limelight, this time featuring in the picture-perfect portrayal of life on the road.

Alice Mabin is an award winning photographer whose serendipitous encounter with a truck led her to produce a detailed look at life as an Australian truck driver in her latest book, The Driver.

After being hit from behind by a truck on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Ms Mabin was struck with the realisation of how important the trucking industry was to the country.

The 228-page book contains 250 images that were whittled down from a portfolio of 10,000 photographs.

Mabin said it was important that the co-operation of the truckies, their families, and the trucking companies were respected and represented.

“This is why it was so vital to feature each State and Territory across Australia and New Zealand,” she said. “I absorbed so much on this legendary journey.

“I learnt how to drive a road train, change tyres, fix fuel leaks, tie down freight and to cook on the side of the road.

“I am proud that this is the most accurate account of real-life trucking ever documented in Australia and New Zealand.”
