Reigning premiers Kendenup off the mark

Reigning premiers Kendenup have secured their first win of the 2019-20 Great Southern Cricket Association season, beating Broomehill by 27 runs on Saturday.

Batting first, hosts Kendenup posted 5-206 after their 45 overs despite finding themselves at 2-26 early in the innings.

First drop Scott Hillman (47) and No.4 batsmen Clinton Gilbert (61) led the charge, assisted by handy contributions from Matthew Gilbert (31) and Keegan Berry (25). Broomehill’s Ethan Caldwell collected two wickets, including Hillman’s, for 22 runs off nine overs.

While Stewart Wright was responsible for sending Clinton Gilbert and Jarred Beech (5) back to the shed to finish his nine-over spell with 2-39.

Tambellup’s Ryan Ballard and Callum Gribble were on top of Broomehill’s batsmen all day.

Ballard claimed 3-25 off nine overs as Gribble took 3-18 off four.

Steve Irvine (58) and Brant Dennis (34) were the only batsmen from Broomehill to surpass 20 runs as the visitors were bowled out for 179 in the 44th over.
