Wagin galloper Binup Boy trounced his rivals to win the $5500 Kojonup Agricultural Supplies — Kojonup Cup (1800m) at the annual Wandecla Races on Saturday, February 15.

Trained by Angela Smith, the four-year-old gelding was far too good for the 10-horse field in the Kojonup feature race as he powered away to win under the urges of jockey Warrick Dicks, beating Rack It Up by three lengths.

It was the Redoubtable gelding’s second win in 16 career starts and came on the back of two unplaced performances in Albany and Narrogin at his past two starts. Street Magician finished third in the cup while the Dixie Solly-trained duo Ell Southee and Chance With Time finished fourth and fifth respectively.

Smith scored a winning double on the six-race card after tasting success in the IGA-Hi-Way Sales Handicap (1200m) with My Departure, who was again ridden by Dicks.

My Departure beat home the Kylie Dowling-trained April’s Fury by half a length while Bankruptcy finished third.

Dicks finished the day with three winners in an impressive display after he also won aboard Sunhaven for Ascot trainer Gary Crispin.

Sunhaven held off the advances of Tyburn at the line to win the Pascoe Partners-Potaka Osbourne Shearing Maiden (1000m) by a half head.

Narrogin trainer Kevin Timms won the final race on the card with seven-year-old gelding Wallet Raider, ridden by James Dear.

Solly and young rider Tamara McGuinniss won the Glenlossie-Sebbes Mechanical Services Handicap (1200m) with four-year-old Blizzard Express by less than a length.

Trainer Ivan Haggerty and jockey Jessamy Walsh also found themselves in the winner’s circle at the event after Double Irish won the CSBP Maiden (1200m) by a neck.

Kojonup’s annual Wandecla Races were again well attended.
