Funding of $2.6 million has been received to improve water quality and amenities at popular tourist destination Lake Ewlyamartup.

The Royalties for Regions funding, announced on Monday by Wagin MLA Terry Waldron, also included funding for nearby Lake Yealering.

Mr Waldron said the funding for Lake Ewlyamartup would help to continue essential upgrades.

“It’s for the engineering works to continue to upgrade Lake Ewlyamartup to make sure the water quality is good and to make the lake more useful and attractive,” he said.

“It’s not just for the local community but for the region to attract more visitations which in itself has benefits economi-cally.

“I’m really pleased that we’ve got to this stage and obviously you’ve got to have money to do that .

“But I think it’s already proved that the money will be managed well.

“It’s great to see Royalties for Regions funding being utilised to save and improve our local lakes.”

Regional Development Minister Terry Redman said the project would employ creative engineering solutions to improve water quality.

“This investment, through the Royalties for Regions Living Lakes initiative, will increase opportunities for bird watching, boating, swimming and waterskiing,” he said.
