Once every three years the West Australian Dirt Kart State Titles attracts some of the nation’s top drivers, and this year’s event did not disappoint.

Held in Wagin from October 2 to October 4, the competition drew more than 450 spectators and a stand-out 220 karts from across Australia.

Across four heats, local drivers were competing against some of the nation’s best. Great Southern Kart Club president Mark Davis said the West Australians were the stand-outs.

“This event is pretty much the grand final, the interstate visitors were some of Australia’s top drivers, ” he said. “But the West Australians, including those like Nathan Walton, were up there as some of the best. Plus in the rookie class, that is only a demonstration class, and it proves the juniors are the future of the sport.”

Work prior to the competition was what made the event such a success, Davis said. With dedicated preparation and maintenance, the track was in pristine condition.

“It provided the drivers with plenty of grip and speed, and many commented on it, ” he said.

“Endless amount of work goes into a special event like one, and it’s not often we can have it in Wagin. It was successful because of our fantastic members and volunteers.”
