Only four points separating Kendenup and Tambellup in race for second spot in GSCA

Kendenup moved closer to securing a finals double chance after defeating Wanderers by four wickets in the Great Southern Cricket Association on Saturday.

Their fifth win ensured they got to within four points of second placed Tambellup with four rounds remaining in the regular season.

Kendenup successfully chased down Wanderers’ total on their home deck to keep their top-two hopes alive.

Wanderers could only manage 8-148 batting first and Kendenup chased the total down after a shaky start.

Kendenup slipped to 5-84, with opener Scott Hillman the first wicket to fall for just 10.

Peter Robertson then snared the next two scalps, including the prize wicket of Mitch Jackson, then Ryan Sinclair joined the party with two wickets.

However, Cameron Walsh and Matt Gilbert steered their side to victory with a terrific 54-run stand before Gilbert was dismissed for 31.

Sebastian Ballard joined fellow youngster Walsh at the crease and they sealed victory as their side finished on 6-152 from 30.5 overs.

Walsh finished unbeaten on 23 and Ballard hit 14 from four balls.

Sinclair took 2-30 while Robertson (2-50) and Elijiah Quartermaine (2-52) also took multiple wickets for Wanderers.

Wanderers’ innings was led by Josh Pinney who scored 50 and shared in a 54-run stand with Quartermaine (21) while Callum Froby made a handy knock of 26.

Sebastian Ballard took 3-13 off five overs and he was well supported by Keegan Berry (2-12) and Clinton Gilbert (2-19).
