It is third time lucky for Katanning with Senior Sergeant Peter McLean retuning to work at Katanning Police Station.

This year marks 32 years in the police force for Snr Sgt McLean, and it is his third posting in Katanning.

Snr Sgt McLean first came to Katanning as a traffic constable between 1985 and 1986.

His second posting was between 2009 and 2011 when he was officer-in-charge of the station.

He returns to Katanning to again take up the town’s top police job after three years at Albany Police Station.

Snr. Sgt. McLean said he chose to return to Katanning.

“I like the lifestyle, I like the people and you can get involved with the town,” he said.

He said there had also been a lot of changes in the town.

“For a multicultural town, relationships have improved a lot since I was here in 1985,” Snr Sgt McLean said.

However, similar issues remain, including drug use and domestic violence.

“Drug use always seems to be an increasing issue, one of our key objectives is to get on top of drug abuse,” he said.

“Not just to get it off the street, but when you look at the broader issues it affects, it contributes to domestic violence, which is a big ticket issue.”
