Record-breaking carnival for schools

The annual primary inter-school summer sports carnival heralded a swag of school records.

The warm day provided little respite for the young athletes, but they powered on.

Braeside Primary School took out top honours, sitting on 1191.5 points, Katanning Primary School followed on 886 and not far behind was St Patrick’s School on 867.5.

Braeside was awarded the most improved trophy that brought great delight to the students who gleefully cheered them on. Staff and students from St Patrick’s Primary School were the organisers of the event and principal Tanya McGuire said it was a pleasure to hold such a successful event.

“All the students put forth such a great effort and the display of sportsmanship truly reflected this,” she said.

“The records that were broken really showed the students commitment to physical activity.”

Deklan Georgy from Braeside Primary broke the 10-year-old boys’ division A 200m record with a time of 29.63sec.

Ali Nazary from Katanning Primary broke the 12-year-old boys’ 200m record with a time of 26.62sec.

The girls’ six-year-old division A 50m record was broken by Adelaide Botel from Braeside Primary with a time of 8.81sec. and the boys’ eight-year-old division A record was broken by Austin Morrow from Braeside Primary with a time of 7.33sec.

Emma Wilson broke the nine year old girls division A 80m with a time of 11.93sec. and the same length record in boys 10-year-old division A was broken by Deklan Georgy.

The girls and boys’ 12-year-old division A 100m record was set by Lucy Irakoze and Ali Nazary respectively.

The boy’s 13-year-old division A 100m record was set by Zar Tun with a time of 12.68sec.

Braeside Primary children also set record in each of the passball events.

The champion boy in the 13-year-old category was Zar Tun from Katanning Primary and the champion girl was Iesah Makkulawa.

Ms McGuire said the day was one all students should remember as a great achievement.

“All of the staff are very pleased with the students’ efforts,” she said.
