Stalwart nurses rack up over 50 years

TOYAH SHAKESPEAREGreat Southern Herald

Two stalwart Katanning nurses stepped down from their posts last week after racking up more than 50 years of service between them.

About 50 people attended a touching ceremony held at the Katanning Club last Friday to pay tribute to outgoing Katanning Hospital advanced skill enrolled nurses Maureen Rose and Chris Brooks.

Ms Brooks retired after working 24 years at the hospital, part of her 40-year nursing career.

“I’ve seen huge changes at the hospital, some for the better, some for the worse,” she said.

“One thing that should never change is the quality of care and compassion shown towards the patients.”

Ms Rose decided to leave the hospital after 29 years and said she enjoyed the work and people she met.

“The things I’ve got money could never ever buy – the friendships and the goodness of the people I’ve worked with,” she said.
