A dedicated Woodanilling family has put its wheels in motion to successfully conquer a 200km bike ride, all to raise awareness and funds for cancer research.

Stuart Garstone, alongside his brother Bradley, father Ian, and good friend Lee Bessell-Browne, took on the challenge of completing The Ride to Conquer Cancer over two days in Perth last weekend.

The group alone raised more than $16,000 for the Harry Perkin's Institute.

Mr Stuart said he and the team felt ecstatic when they crossed the finish line.

"It was the best experience I have ever done, and we have all signed up for next year already," he said.

"I'm so glad we did it - I thought it was going to be a lot harder than it was, but everyone was just in such high spirits."

The team dedicated their ride to Carol Garstone, who was diagnosed with bowel cancer two years ago and died earlier this year.

"Everyone is there for the same reason, to help make a difference," Mr Stuart said.

"And in the crowd, there were some riders that were currently suffering with cancer, and the fact that they can do it, made you even more dedicated."

Over two days, 1032 participants rode through the city of Perth, then into the hills and Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research director Peter Leedman said The Ride to Conquer Cancer was a testament to strength in numbers.

"Ride-generated dollars support our world-leading doctors, researchers, scientists and clinicians," he said.

"(Donations) provide state-of-the-art equipment required for vital cancer research programs improving the health of Western Australians," he said.
