The National Broadband Network has launched a second satellite into space to boost regional broadband services.

The Sky Muster II was sent into orbit at 4.30am last Friday with the aim of providing better broadband for about 400,000 Australian homes and businesses.

NBN chief executive Bill Murrow said this was the next step in delivering satellite broadband service.

“We are ensuring that no Australian is left behind by providing access to fast broadband for those who need it the most,” he said.

Meanwhile, a WAFarmers spokesperson said the roll-out of the NBN in regional areas needed to happen as quickly as possible.

“Business success, personal safety, social interaction and access to education for regional areas all rely on reliable telecommunications services,” they said.

“The launch of Sky Muster II'''' last week is a step towards completion of the roll-out of the NBN, allowing rural and remote communities to access more reliable internet services.”

Sky Muster II joins the first Sky Muster satellite, which was launched last October.
