Toy library thankful for fund boost

The Katanning Toy Library has received a financial boost just in time for the winter school holidays.

The Katanning Apex Club donated $250 to the completely volunteer-run community organisation to help with the purchase and maintenance of toys.

Apex president Stephen Dennis said the toy library approached them for some funding to allow the library to buy some new toys and help improve the lives of families.

“Apex is all about building better communities and we saw this as an opportunity to help people who aren’t as well off to have access to a greater range of toys for their kids,” he said.

Mr Dennis said the Apex Club raises money through selling the fun foods at lots of local events.

“We sell fairy floss and doughnuts and all the fun stuff,” he said.

“We get involved in Harmony Festival, the Ag show and a little bit of bar work and all money we raise we try to funnel back into community organisations.”

Katanning Toy Library committee member Ella Maesepp said the money was most welcome and would help the group buy a couple of items on their wish list.

“We buy very high-quality toys that last a long time but nothing is infinite,” she said.

“We cater for 0-8 year-old children but we have found a lot of our toys are for the much younger kids so we hope to expand the range for the slightly older kids in that range.”

Ms Maesepp said the library had a range of toys for kids, parents, grandparents and carers to borrow and return which saved them money.
