Woody consolidate top spot

Katanning narrowly beat Broomehill in a goal-fest to win 6-5 in the Central Great Southern Hockey Association competition at the weekend.

Dave Gardiner, Chris Brooks and Zak Hatfield all scored two goals each for Katanning, while Adam Taylor scored two for Broomehill along with Zeke Page, Jaydon Taylor and Bec Drake-Brockman who slotted one apiece.

Consistent Katanning performer Hatfield picked up the best-on-ground votes.

In a top of the table clash, Woodanilling took on Tambellup 1 with the latter proving they are still in the hunt for premiership success this season.

Woodanilling continued their winning ways, defeating Tambellup 1-0 with Damien Shackley scoring the single goal of the match.

Tambellup’s Leon Squibb was voted best-on-ground.

Kojonup 1 beat club rivals Kojonup 2, 5-0 with Dan Ladyman and Dan Zadon both scoring twice for the winning side and claiming votes in the best-on-ground count while Richard Avery also contributing to the convincing win with a goal of his own.

The win moves Woody to 20 points, two games clear of Tambellup 1 in second on the ladder who are four games clear of Kojonup 1 in third and Tambellup 2 in fourth, each on eight points but separated by goal difference.

In the women’s competition, Tambellup have sealed top spot on the ladder for 2016 with a now unbeatable lead after a 5-2 defeat of Katanning at the weekend.

Tambellup had five individual goal scorers in Jess McPartland, Caroline Sprigg, Ella Bird, Holly Farrel and Emily Norrish, while Cat Marciniak and Emma Julius scored for Katanning.

Kojonup Chicks edged further above Kojonup Owls with a tight 2-1 victory over their cross-club rivals.

Emily Perkins scored both goals for the Chicks as teammate Lisa Thomas claimed the best-on- ground votes. Katie O’Halloran was the Owls’ goal scorer.

Woodanilling’s Kira Flynn scored a hat-trick in a best-on-ground performance during her team’s 4-0 defeat of Broomehill.

Penny Shackley scored Woody’s other goal.
