The Broomehill Museum is set to be upgraded after the Shire of Broomehill-Tambellup council approved an additional $16,000 towards its refurbishment at a meeting on November 21.

The council had already allocated $5000 towards the work in the budget and made an amendment to the 2019/20 budget for the additional funds.

The upgrade request came after the Broomehill Historical Society re-formed as the Broomehill Heritage Group and submitted correspondence outlining the goals for the museum in the future.

Shire chief executive Keith Williams said the approved works were expected to start immediately.

“The museum committee is really proactive and we are confident that it will be open a lot more and there will be more activity around the museum,” he said.

“Part of the work is to fix some white ant damage that has been there for a while, and the rest is improvements to make it more presentable.”

The original $5000 has been allocated for repairs to the ceiling, and the additional $16000 will cover floor repairs which were quoted at $5800. The remaining $10,200 will be used for painting and electrical works.

The items from the museum are being stored in the Broomehill administration building and depot until works are completed.
