Crack field assembled for annual ladies tournament
Local players will be hoping to buck recent trends among a 170-strong field in pursuit of two gold nuggets on offer as the major prizes in the Goldfields Ladies Golf Open, starting on Saturday.
A legion of female golfers were out in force on Friday for a good cause at the traditional Pink Day teams event at Kalgoorlie Golf Course.
The annual charity day, when players dress up in pink and decorate their carts, raises money for the palliative care unit at Kalgoorlie Health Campus, and doubles as a precursor to the 14th annual tournament.
Last year’s Pink Day raised $4000, which took the total funds raised to nearly $34,000 since the tournament’s inception.
In Saturday’s launch of official tournament action, the first players will tee-off at 6.30am, with Esperance’s Tracey Frizzell returning to defend her 2023 title.
Last year’s program included a hole-in-one on the eighth from Esperance’s Tina Potts, and two years ago, Mandurah’s Donna Walker triumphed with rounds of 40 and 43.
The success of Mandurah players also included Joanne Kirby’s triumph in 2020.
Gold nuggets will be awarded this weekend to both the overall winner and the gross leader.
