Gascoyne in dynamic batting form but Viewers’ depth paves way for victory
North Kalgoorlie captain Glenn Gascoyne blasted a quick-fire century but it went unrewarded as Lake View took the honours last Saturday in the Eastern Goldfields Cricket Association’s B-grade competition.
Gascoyne plundered the Viewers’ attack for 11 fours and nine sixes at a strike rate of 240.42 en route to a blistering 113 off just 47 deliveries.
His aggressive hitting from the No.5 spot was the linchpin of the side’s 249 after Norths initially struggled to 3-30.
Lake View’s Daniel Hood made the key breakthrough in the 22nd over when Gascoyne holed out to Shaun Marx.
Tex McLeod followed up with 25 and No.9 batter Sam Wood contributed 22 off 27 balls, while Jackson Brown snared 3-31.
In reply, Lake View surged from 2-34 to 3-127 thanks to Matt Ruly (58) and Hood (46). Marx ensured the Viewers banked a second win with an unbeaten 58 off 49 balls in the team’s 7-251.
Matt Smart was the pick of Norths’ bowlers with 3-22.
Also last weekend, Great Boulder completed an impressive all-round batting display to beat Hannans.
Opener Kalahni Vlasich top-scored with 41 and Mel Gallagher and Kyle Penny each made 33 in the Two Blues’ 269.
Maaz Hassan took 3-78, but Hannans were restricted to 9-121 when Shane Donnellan top-scored with 43 off 42 balls.
Nathan Weir finished with 5-31 and Penny took 3-13.
Ladder:
North Kalgoorlie 14 points; Great Boulder 14 points; Hannans 10; Lake View 10.
