Wesley South Perth WASPS played themselves into form with a two-goal win against Stiles Electrical Premier League men’s rivals Aquinas Reds on Saturday night at the Eastern Goldfields Hockey Association’s Lionel Street headquarters.

WASPS retained a spot in the top four with the 6-4 victory in a game that was played as the second leg of a regional round double-header that began with a women’s clash between the same clubs.

It was a much-needed fourth win for WASPS, who were coming off a draw and a loss that dampened a positive opening four rounds.

WASPS, whose overall record includes two draws and one defeat, hold down outright fourth spot with 14 points, trailing Westside Wolves (18), UWA (17) and Melville (16).

Despite a gallant display, Aquinas are ninth in the 12-team standings with two wins.

The series was supported by the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder and the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries as part of Hockey WA’s annual regional round.

Last weekend’s series coincided with a visit by former hockey Olympians Jayde Taylor and Trent Mitton as part of the Olympics Unleashed Program.
