Man arrested over alleged armed bank robbery in Coolangatta

A man will be extracted to Queensland after he allegedly robbed a bank armed with a knife following a cross-border manhunt.

Queensland Police were called to the NAB branch on Griffith St in Coolangatta about noon on Tuesday.

Police will allege a masked man armed with a knife and demanded cash from staff before fleeing the scene.

No staff were hurt or injured during the alleged armed robbery.

NSW Police later arrested the 48-year-old Maroochydore man on the Pacific Highway at Ballina – about 80km south of the Queensland border – about 7.30pm on Monday.

The man was set to appear at Lismore Magistrates Court, where Queensland Police detectives will formally apply to have the man extradited to Queensland on Wednesday.

It’s understood he’ll appear in Southport Magistrates Court on Thursday.
